Dr. Kim Juniper is Chief Scientist with Ocean Networks Canada, a University of Victoria-based organization that operates cabled ocean observatories in the Pacific and Arctic Oceans. He is also Professor in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences and the Department of Biology at the University of Victoria, and holder of the British Columbia Leadership Chair in Ocean Ecosystems and Global Change. His research has primarily focused on the biogeochemistry and ecology of deep-sea hydrothermal vents. Other research areas have included the ecology of deep-sea sediments and arctic sea-ice microbial communities.  He is an advisor to the International Seabed Authority, that regulates deep-sea mining, and a contributing author to the on-going UN World Ocean Assessment.
