These current meters measure local currents and temperatures. The current meters have been installed nearby to broadband seismometers to provide data important for processing of seismic information. Local currents can induce "noise" into the acoustic signal and current meter data allows filtering of this "noise." The Nobska MAVS-4 3-D Single Point Velocity Meter (VELD3) measures local currents.
The VEL3DB304 instrument was deployed in 2014 during the VISIONS'14 cruise at the International District 2 site and is connected to the MJ03D junction box by a 10 m extension cable. This 3-D velocity meter is positioned near a short-period ocean bottom seismometer, and a bottom pressure and tilt meter.
